5 Ways to Deal With Your Anxiety

How to deal with anxiety

Dealing with anxiety is not an easy task. Especially because anxiety lives in your head and your thoughts. With anxiety being so intimate, how do we deal with it on a day to day basis?

Well let’s first talk about what anxiety is.

What is anxiety?

Anxiety is when you have uneasiness, nervousness, worry, or fear about the future. Whether it is about your academic future, your job, or relationships with others, it could be about anything.

How can I deal with my anxiety?

1. Remind yourself Anxiety is not reality

Just because you may feel a certain way, does not mean that is reality and that it will happen. People with anxiety tend to feel as though if they feel it may be real, it might be real. But right now, that is not the case, and whether it is real or not, right now everything is okay.

2. Anxiety does not last forever

Yes, anxiety is ongoing, but anxiety does not have to last for the rest of your life if you don’t want it to. You can heal from it and grow from it. Just remind yourself that in time, everything will be okay, and keep working on changing your thoughts.

3. Question your thought process

Whenever you notice yourself thinking thoughts of anxiety, start to challenge and question your thoughts. Is this really true? Have they proven themselves to be the kind of people who would react this way? Where did these thoughts come from? Are these thoughts actually true about me, or is it just my insecurities?

4. Write down your thoughts

Journaling is always a great outlet to get your thoughts out. When you have anxiety, your mind feels like it is constantly spinning. Try writing your thoughts out, it helps you physically get the thoughts out of your head and on to paper. It might even help you sleep better.

5. Go for a run

When you have anxiety, doing some sort of exercise or running really helps clear your mind. Something about running helps you get into a better mental head space for a while. You feel more positive and energized about life.

Bonus: Do something productive

When you feel like your head is spinning, you have a lot of energy coursing inside of you. It is best to put that energy to work, like cleaning or creating. You have a healthy way to direct that energy, and you have just cleaned your house, or made something beautiful!

Conclusion

Anxiety can be overcome if you want it to be overcome. Just constantly question your thought process and remind yourself that right at this present moment, you are doing okay.
